Posted 22 May, 2011 - 21:20 by quarry2011

Hello

I am currently researching my family

Name Quarry (Quarrie)

I have managed to find a John Quarry

Father to James Quarry ( born 18 March 1720)

James married Agnes Shiel ( babtised 25 Feb 1720) on 11 May 1745

I would love to find out more about John Quarry and his wife etc or anything else about my family around this period.

Can anyone help?

Kind regards

Linda

My name is Christopher Woods. I can be reached at the following email address: christopher.woods.2006@anderson.ucla.edu. My great-great grandfather, William Wood was born 5 Feb 1828 in Eckford (William’s son, John Lee Roy ‘Jack’ Woods, my great grandfather, added an ‘s’ to the family name). William immigrated to the United States with a brother. William Wood died in Columbia, Wisconsin, USA on 20 Sep 1897. William Wood’s father, my great-great-great grandfather, is also named William Wood (christened in Eckford on 15 Dec 1794; died in Eckford on 22 June 1862).

John Barron Neilson

From what I can understand, my maternal Grandfather, John Barron Neilson was born at Haughhead, Eckford on 20 February 1871. His father, James Neilson was born around 1834 in Marykirk, Kincardinshire. It seems that at least part of the family moved to the Leeds area, probably around 1880. If anyone has any information about John Barron Neilson I would be very interested. John Taylor

Yairs in Eckford

Posted 29 January, 2011 - 16:07 by Robin Buchanan

The Rev Joseph Yair was my gggrandfather and he was minister of the church in Eckford for many years.  His eldest son, the Rev David William Yair, who served as a minister in Orkney, was my ggrandfather.  Joseph Yair in particular had 8 surviving children through his marriage to Helen Blair McDougall on 12 December 1836.

I'd be very interested in getting in touch with any other Yair descendants.   I live in Gloucester and my email address is robin.buchanan@blueyonder.co.uk

I was delighted to find your very well organised website.

Taits of Eckford

Posted 5 August, 2009 - 23:17 by lomata

Hello

My first post to this forum.  Reading the history of Eckford mention is made of tailor, hook dresser & joiner as trades available in Eckford.  Three of my Tait family were engaged in those enterprises.

Thomas TAIT b. abt. 1791 d. Eckford 1869 was a Tailor (his father William having been a Weaver who had at least 10 children that I know of)

John TAIT b. abt. 1787 d. Eckford 1860 - Thomas' brother - was a Joiner who took Thomas' son
