John Richardson

I just tracked my great-great-great-great grandfather here. According to 1841 Scotland census he was born in Eckford about 1811 and raised his family in the Roxburgshire area. The family consisted of John and Janet Richardson along with 6 kids James, Janet, Mary, John, William and Anges. I am excited to visit Scotland for the first time this St Andrews Day. Hello John! I hope you enjoyed your visit to Scotland last year. I was interested in your post as I had Richardson ancestors from Eckford myself. One thing puzzles me - you say that the 1841 census gives John Richardson's birthplace as Eckford, but that particular census doesn't give parish of birth. Did you mean 1851? I checked Scotlandspeople for a John Richardson born in Roxburghshire between 1800 and 1815, and the only one in Eckford was the John born there in 1809 to Jasper Richardson and Margaret Hope. Are these your ancestors? I note that your John and Janet Richardson didn't call any of their children Jasper or Margaret. Best wishes, Harry D. Watson (Edinburgh)
