I am Roger Lewry and can be contacted at FamHistRCL-001@yahoo.co.uk. My great, great, great uncle was James Brunlees of Kelso (later Sir James Kelso after being knighted by Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle in 1886). In 1841 his son Howard Brunlees was living at Mansion House, Eckford with his wife Eliza and nephew Ronald. Jane Innes Brunlees (sister of James Brunlees) married Andrew Paterson (both of Kelso) and they were my great, great grandparents. If anyone can tell me more about either of these families or the house in Eckford I shall be delighted to hear from them.

My original reference to 1841 should have been to 1901 - sorry. Also, I have since discovered that the census transcript I found was a bit misleading. Howard was living at Mainhouse on the Morebattle / Kelso road via Linton. Roger

CORRECTION  I must apologise for an error I made when posting a message as a guest on 31 December.  The information about Howard Brunlees was taken from a transcript of the 1901 census, NOT 1841.  As a result of an email response, I have investigated further and discovered that although Howard was in the parish of Eckford, he was actually at Mainhouse.
